Mercom Announces Trunked Logging Recorder for M/A-COM Wireless Systems Trunked Radio Systems

Detrunks Radio Traffic Efficiently, Reliably

Lyndhurst, NJ – August 7, 2001 –Mercom Systems, Inc. (www.mercom.com), a leading provider of computer telephony solutions for CRM and related markets, announced today at APCO its new Trunked Logging Recorder (TLR) for M/A-COM Wireless Systems radio systems, allowing reliable and efficient recording of M/A-COM’s EDACS® and ProVoice™ radio systems.

"It is difficult to efficiently record the call traffic on a modern trunked radio system, which uses computers to create hundreds of ‘call groups’ from a handful of radio channels," noted Bob Jagendorf, Mercom’s director of sales and marketing. "The logging system must -- like our new TLR -- follow the radio system’s constant assignment and reassignment of call groups so that the radio traffic, when played back, will form coherent conversations."

But it is vitally important for emergency services, and utility repair services, to record their trunked radio traffic, so that they can monitor and record unfolding events, and analyze them later, Jagendorf explained.

The new Mercom TLR is able to detrunk and record the radio traffic thanks to its interface with M/A-COM’s Integrated Multi-site Controller (IMC) digital recording interface. Without this interface, a logging recorder would need to dedicate a recording channel to each possible call group, instead of one port for each of the (far fewer) radio channels used by the system, noted Jagendorf.

The Mercom TLR

The new Mercom TLR is based on a Windows 2000 system and records voice transmissions (both conventional and trunked, analog and digital, clear and encrypted) as detrunked by the IMC. Transmissions are stored on a hard drive for fast searching and retrieval, by time, date, talk group ID, radio ID, and other assignable descriptors. Multi-channel playback and optional silence restoration allow for the complete reconstruction of multi-call events from the system’s high-performance SQL 2000 Mercom Call Database. Selected recordings can be copied to other media or e-mailed in standard playback formats.

Compatible with other Mercom Recording Servers, the TLR supports attachment to a local area network so that transmissions can be searched and retrieved from other PCs in the office. Its suite of graphical management tools provides at-a-glance configuration, storage, diagnostic and alarm information.

After a user-selected period, recordings can be archived on removable media, such as DVD-RAM. Each removable media cartridge contains its own call database to speed up the retrieval process. Additionally, recordings can be stored on a RAID or a Network Attached Storage, NAS, device for the instant access of hundreds of thousands of hours of recordings without the need for finding and inserting removable media.
