Mercom Announces NAS Support for its Audiolog Computer Telephony Voice Recording Server
Automatic, Scheduled Archiving Eliminates Handling of Removable Media
Lyndhurst, NJ – March 8, 2001 – Mercom Systems, Inc. (www.mercom.com), a leading provider of computer telephony solutions for CRM and related markets, announced today at CT EXPO 2001 in Los Angeles that Network Attached Storage (NAS) support is now available as an option for its Audiolog™ Recording Servers.
The new incremental-cost option allows Audiolog Recording Servers to archive recorded material to standard NAS devices with TCP/IP addressing that have been attached to the same local or wide-area network as the Audiolog Recording Server, providing automated backups and centralized management and security for the files.
"The NAS option will benefit enterprises with recording servers in multiple departments, such as claims, customer service and billing," explained Richard Van Tieghem, Mercom’s vice president of operations. "Recorded material can be uploaded to NAS subsystems, where it will be under centralized control and management. Users will have more flexibility concerning where recordings are stored, and can take advantage of the fault tolerant technologies available with today’s NAS systems."
An Audiolog Recording Server can support up to 144 call agents, and a DVD disc can hold about 500 hours of conversation. Assuming the agents are talking four hours a day, archiving to disc has to take place at least once a day in such an environment, producing discs that have to be handled, managed and secured, he noted. With the new option, this handling can be eliminated and the archiving process can be automated, both for offices on a LAN, and for geographically dispersed branch locations on an enterprise’s WAN, he added. The software can additionally control how long the material it stored on the NAS device before deletion.
